The day’s exploration of Black musical traditions culminated in the late afternooon concert, “Deep from the Soul: A Musical Celebration of Black History Month,” held at historic Battell Chapel.
The concert brought together an extraordinary assembly of artists and ensembles in a powerful and moving performance. Featured guest artist Jeremiah Paul and his talented ensemble delivered stirring musical selections that captivated the audience.
Adding to the richness of the evening was the dynamic group of young African American women, “New Praize,” led by Dunn Pearson Jr.. Their vibrant performance embodied both tradition and contemporary expression, reflecting the ongoing vitality of Black sacred and inspirational music.
The 120 voices of the New Haven Chorale, under the direction of Ed Bolkovac, filled the chapel with warmth, power, and depth. The collaboration among soloists, ensembles, and the full chorale created moments of profound musical and emotional resonance.
