Halloween Concert

Saturday, October 26 at 3PM
Trinity on the Green New Haven, CT

The New Haven Chorale is thrilled to bring back its Halloween Concert for Children in its 75th Anniversary Season! The choristers will be wearing their Halloween costumes and children of all ages are encouraged to come in costume as well. This concert will include rounds to be sung with the choir, madrigals, several engaging classical pieces including Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, a spiritual arrangement, and a gospel piece performed by the youthful gospel choir ‘New Praise’ with Dunn Pearson at the piano. There will also be an opportunity for the children to come up and conduct the Chorale! This will be a fun and educational concert tailored for you, your children, and grandchildren. You won’t want to miss this event!

This concert is FREE for all families bringing children in costume. Donations are gladly accepted!

Holiday Concert: Music for the Soul

Whether you are celebrating Kwanzaa, Christmas, Chanukah or simply gathering with family and friends, the Chorale’s 75th Anniversary Holiday Concert is an event you won’t want to miss! The program will include exquisite seasonal works based on the themes of love, peace, and spirituality.The concert will include dazzling choruses by Handel, Haydn, and Mozart with choir and orchestra, two inspired choral works by Ola Gjeilo: A Spotless Rose and The Ground (Pleni sunt caeli), The Wexford Carol by Elaine Hagenberg, November Song by Christopher Theofanidis, Flight Song by Kim Arnesen, Peace Flows into Me by Adam Paltrowitz, I Dream a World by Rosephanye Powell, and the premiere of Yo Lisa Goy by composer Noah Stein. We are also very happy to welcome ‘New Praise’ with Dunn Pearson performing two gospel pieces! And remember we have music for the audience to sing along with the Chorale and orchestra!!!

The Ordering of Moses by Nathaniel Dett

The New Haven Chorale is excited to join forces with the Heritage Chorale, the Fairfield Chorale and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra under the direction of its new music director Perry So for a gala performance of Canadian-American composer Nathaniel Dett’s masterpiece The Ordering of Moses. The oratorio is a retelling of Moses leading his people out of captivity into the promised land. Woolsey Hall will be filled with the sound of 200 voices, four soloists, full symphony orchestra and organ as this amazing work is brought to life. The composer compiled the texts from scriptures and folklore, and incorporated the spirituals He is King of Kings, And When Moses Smote the Water, and Go Down Moses into this bold romantic score. Come and experience this amazing masterpiece from a brilliant, unique, and long-neglected composer!

75th Anniversary Gala Concert

The New Haven Chorale welcomes guest conductors Carolina Flores, Professor of the Choral Department at The Hartt School, NHC assistant conductor Blake Hansen, and Paul Mueller, former music director of the NHC to the culminating event of our 75th Anniversary Season!! This gala concert will include music by three outstanding American composers. Featured will be excerpts from Elaine Hagenberg’s wildly popular Illuminare led by Carolina Flores, Jake Runestad’s Wild Forces and Flower into Kindness conducted by Blake Hansen, and Runestad’s Proud Music of the Storm and Leonard Bernstein’s timeless masterpiece Chichester Psalms under the baton of Ed Bolkovac and featuring counter tenor Benjamin Rauch. In addition, there will be a world premiere of a new choral work by NHC chorister and composer Nathan Scalise, as well as a few surprises involving our audience and former members! Come and celebrate our 75th “Birthday” concert with us–it is an event you will not want to miss!!
